A man with a gun is a perfectly acceptable image in the mainstream. A woman with a whip is somehow controversial. Nietzsche advised us all to carry a whip if we are going to visit a woman. Good old Nietzsche was no fan of Christianity but this warning does fit with Biblical verses about the dangers of the beautiful woman.


Furs And Whips

This connection was made in the classic novel, Venus and Furs by Leopold Sacher-Masoch. Influential band, Velvet Underground, put together a song, pehaps their best, based on the book. The track has been covered by many, including Siouxsie and the Banshees and London After Midnight.
