The Ring film was slow to make an impression. In fact there was sequel that looked for a scientifi explanation to the phenomenon. When the Ring finally started to attract fans, the developed a sequel with a supernatural dimension. Then completed a trilogy with a very effective prequel. The Koreans made their own Ring film. The Americans made two Ring films.

There's a lot to say about The Ring and its influence. But we'll start with Sadako. You can see many ghostly characters in Japanese films like this, which is one reason I buy such films from the Far East. She's young like just about every female in modern Japanese films. She has long dark hair, that makes a curtain for her face. She has a quirky fast forward style of movement which is very effective in instigating a fearful reaction as she lurches forward. She's definitely dead, but clearly animated. A very good example of a Living Dead girl.
